The Institute for Essential Services
The Institute for Essential Services (TIES) is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit charitable organization registered with the Philadelphia Secretary of State and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
Our mission
We aim to improve achievement gaps in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), workforce development training, and related areas of self-sufficiency for minorities and students from low-income families.

Our Purpose
TIES is dedicated to serving communities by restoring and advancing underserved populations in Philadelphia. Through coordination and collaboration with community partners and families, TIES seeks to eliminate socio-cultural disparities in groups who have experienced and often continue to experience political, social, and economic discrimination. In a broad sense, essential services are those “daily services essential to preserving life, health, public safety, and basic societal functioning.” At TIES, we embrace a shared belief with the community of Philadelphia that a three-strand cord of LOVE is not easily broken.
Our Vision
TIES’ global vision is to eliminate food insecurity and improve achievement gaps in workforce development training, STEM education (and related areas of self-sufficiency for youth and adults affected by social, health, and economic disparities.
